Love and relationship is, as most people know unless they believe too much in fairy-tales, a rather complex phenomenon. The art and science of astrology can help us understand the multiple issues involved in our love life. It can help us know what is happening now, what stage of relationship we are now experiencing and what can we learn from it.

Essential Astrology combines the insightful wisdom of Psychological Astrology with intuitive experiential methods to bring about understanding, acceptance and potential transformation for our love lives. Knowing the zodiac signs, horoscope houses and the planets that are concerned with love and relationship fosters understanding; but experiencing their energy for oneself and how they interact with the energies of the beloveds horoscope brings about the key for transformation.

Relationships are essentially based on the I-You complementary polarity. Yin-yang, black-white or red-green although opposite are not necessarily antagonistic to each other. Rather their complementariness makes them components of a greater whole. The lover and the beloved (husband and wife) although originally independent individuals, when they become part of a relationship are both equally part of the greater whole of the love-relationship. Thus we need to consider the characteristics and energies of both separately plus together.

Astrologically, we do this by:

(i) looking at each individual’s horoscope separately to see their attitude to love & relationship

(ii) comparing two individuals horoscopes in two bi-wheels

(iii) combining two individuals into a mid-point composite, which represent the energies of the relationship

(iv) the composite chart can be put in a bi-wheel of current transits to understand what is happening in the relationship now

When we look at horoscopes we are always looking to understand how the three major components of zodiac sign, houses and planets merge together into a unique quality and then how each chart point is in aspect to other points. In relationship astrology we also look to see how the energies of each point relates to chart points in the beloved’s chart. We will practice this not only conceptually but also experientially. By ‘becoming’ each planet, or chart point, and then relating and dialoguing with the other person’s chart point, we can achieve a change of gestalt of being in the other person’s position.

We will also discover the harmonies that join two people together as well as the challenges they need to face and learn about. In astrology it is considered successful relationships require a mix of harmonious and challenging connections between the two people’s charts. If too harmonious there is no zest to the relationship, it is too easy. If too many challenges, there will be too much conflict. With several harmonious connections there will be energy to join the two people into a couple, plus a few challenges will give them something to learn form each other. However, more essential then this type of ‘Goldilocks’ combination of charts, is seeing what is the destiny now for you with the other. Not that we reject the other for not being our perfect astrological love partner, but we understand what are we learning from each other now and what can we offer towards making the relationship more supportive and a growing loving life partnership.
